1. FERPA/HIPPA Quiz
After completing the pre-quiz (I did not look at the Hint Sheet) I answered 10 questions incorrectly. I learned some valuable and interesting information regarding the laws and regulations of posting/releasing students' information. FERPA protects the educational records of students. This will impact my teaching in the future when it comes to students asking for their grades. There have been times I will open the grade book with the student over my shoulder and that student may see the other students' grade and that can be a serious offense with consequences.
2. MiSchool Data
The data is from the 2013/2014 school year focusing on 8th grade Yale Junior High Reading MEAP scores of the economically disadvantaged vs. not economically disadvantaged students. The data report shows a significant gap in the percentage of proficient students between 2009-2012. The 2012 school year shows that there has been significant improvement in closing the achievement gap between the two groups. The percentage of advanced not economically disadvantaged students is 40% compared to 28% advanced economically disadvantaged students. The percentage of proficient economically disadvantaged students is 56% compared to 48% proficient for not economically disadvantaged students. For partially proficient and not proficient categories both groups percentages were <10%. With this information I believe that our building is meeting the learning needs of all students. They (teachers) have significantly closed the achievement gap between the two groups and the economically disadvantaged students were higher in percentage in the proficiency category. I believe some factors that has contributed to the reduction in the gap is differentiated instruction, professional developments, the integration of technology, highly qualified teachers, and strengthening parental support for learning.

(Collecting Valuable Information to Address the Gap)
The data to be collected can be teacher and student based (survey both). It will allow teachers and administrators to gain insight into how much class time is focused on instructional purposes vs. tasks and management. This information can be used to brainstorm/implement ideas on how make the classroom run more efficiently allowing teachers more instructional time, engagement, and learning.
